Peter
Looking for a mid-career change
Peter came to the SkillsFuture Work-Learn Bootcamp, a collaboration between Generation, SkillsFuture Singapore and Institutes of Higher Learning, as a mid-career worker seeking to successfully upgrade himself to transition into a new field. Before joining the digital marketing program, Peter had a background in editorial work and journalism. He had taken several other short-term courses, but they hadn’t provided him with sufficient skills to change his career.
Repeated, Hands-on Practice
This program allowed Peter to build his network while learning in an environment that gave him a taste of daily life in the marketing industry, gaining the skills he really needed through repeated practice. His most memorable project was a campaign for KFC revolving around its social media marketing in which he was able to develop his research as well as presentation skills.
“Every one of us got a chance to get the feel of pitching ideas and working in teams where everybody contributed.”
Launching a New Marketing Career
Graduating from the program made Peter realize that learning is a life-long process, and that everybody can have a chance to embark on a path in their field of interest. Not long after completing the program, Peter was recruited by a marketing firm, where he now works on their social media platforms and SEO.
“My advice to people is, no matter how old you are, never stop learning and keep upgrading yourself, especially if you have a passion.”
