Generation Selected as WISE Awards 2018 Finalist
Generation is among 12 finalists chosen by the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) for their innovative and impactful approaches to today’s most urgent education challenges.
The following news announcement was released by WISE today:
Generation has been selected as one of the 12 finalist projects for the 2018 WISE Awards.
Each year, the WISE Awards recognize and promote innovative projects from around the world that are addressing global educational challenges.
Generation is a youth unemployment organization active in 65 cities and eight countries. Operating with more than 1,700 employer partners, Generation empowers young people to build thriving and sustainable careers while providing employers with the highly skilled talent they need. The Generation program trains youth in profession-specific skills, places them in jobs and monitors their performance. It also provides the trainees with social support such as mentorship or alumni programs and monitors participants’ well-being and quality outcomes after their recruitment.
Dr. Mona Mourshed, CEO of Generation, said: “Generation recruits, trains, and places youth in careers, and then once they are on the job, we measure the return on investment for both our learners and employers. In just three years, we have supported 18,000 youth across seven countries and 65 cities; and, 83% of our graduates are placed in jobs with our 1700 employer partners. Our graduates have earned total salaries of more than US$55 million to date, and over 88% of our employers have registered gains in productivity, quality, retention, and speed to promotion.”
Stavros N. Yiannouka, CEO of WISE, said: “We congratulate Generation for making it to the finalist stage. Each of the 2018 WISE Awards finalists has constructed an effective, tested solution to a global educational challenge. Whether it’s ensuring fundamental education for refugees or creating the next generation of empathetic and conscious leaders, each project is already transforming lives, and provides an inspirational model for others to adopt. This is vital to our mission at WISE, which centers around collaboration”.
The 12 projects come from eleven countries and were shortlisted for their innovative solutions to education challenges and their positive social impact. The awards finalists were picked from a pool of 413 projects, and evaluated according to strict criteria. They must be successful, innovative education projects that have already demonstrated a transformative impact on individuals, communities, and society. They must be financially stable, have a clear development plan and be scalable and replicable.
The finalists will be reviewed by a jury of experts and the six WISE Awards winning projects will be announced mid-July 2018 and celebrated at WISE@NewYork Forum in the United States, September 2018. In addition to publicity and networking opportunities, each project receives $20,000 (US).
